Privacy Policy
Who we are
Ippo Nihongo ("Ippo", "the app") is published by legal entity name, postal address ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the app and this website.
The short version
Ippo is built to work without collecting personal data. The app has no networking code of its own, we run no servers that receive your study data, we use no analytics or advertising tools, and we cannot see what you study.
Data stored on your iPhone
Your progress, review schedule, lists, notes, saved phrases, settings and your profile name and glyph are stored in the app's own folder on your iPhone. They leave your device only if you back up your iPhone with iCloud or a computer, which Apple handles under its own privacy policy.
You can delete this data at any time with Reset progress in Profile, or by deleting the app.
Microphone and speech recognition
Speaking practice uses the microphone only while you hold the button. Your speech is turned into text by Apple's on-device speech recognition and compared with the phrase on your iPhone. Recordings are not saved and are not sent to us or to anyone. If on-device Japanese recognition is not available on your iPhone, the app says so and does not fall back to a server.
Translation
Add & translate uses Apple's translation feature with language models on your iPhone. Downloading the Japanese model, when you ask for it, is a system download by Apple. The text you translate stays on your device.
Purchases and the free trial
The purchase and the 7-day trial are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your name, payment details or Apple Account. Apple tells the app only whether the full app is unlocked and when the trial started. Apple's privacy policy applies to the purchase.
Widgets
The widget reads data from the app on your iPhone through a shared local container. Nothing is sent over the network.
Reminders
The optional daily reminder is a local notification scheduled on your iPhone. It is off until you turn it on.
Feedback and support email
If you write to us, at support@ipponihongo.com or with Send feedback in the app, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. The feedback draft can include your iPhone model, iOS version and app version, never study data. We use your message only to reply, and keep it no longer than needed to help you, at most retention period.
This website
ipponihongo.com is a static website. It sets no cookies and uses no analytics. Our hosting provider, hosting provider, may keep standard server logs, such as IP address and time of request, for security, for a short period.
Children
Ippo does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the Swiss FADP and the EU GDPR, you have rights to access, correct and delete personal data. Because study data stays on your device, you control it directly. For email correspondence, contact us and we will help.

If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the date above.
